Miranda Selwood

Director.

Miranda Selwood holds a Bachelor of Music Theatre from the Central Queensland Conservatorium of Music, having come from a decade of dance training.  She has extensive experience as a performer in community and semi-professional productions in Brisbane including: Miss Adelaide in Blue Fish Theatrical’s Guys and Dolls, Eliza Doolittle in Savoyard’s My Fair Lady, Mrs Lovett in Ignatians’ Sweeney Todd, Reno Sweeney in Savoyards’ Anything Goes and The Witch in Ignatians’ Into The Woods. More recently Miranda has become known for her work as a Director, including Avenue Q and Little Shop of Horrors for the Brisbane Arts Theatre; Spamalot and the award-winning production of Shrek: The Musical for PRIMA; and The Boy From Oz for Savoyards. She is especially proud of her directorship of Ignatians’ Little Women in 2013. Under the banner of Mirthful Productions, Miranda has proudly produced The 24 Hour Musical Project across its first six years and is now a Founding Director of the 24HMP Foundation which will produce the Project’s future iterations. Miranda has a true appreciation for the pure joy of the Broadway Musical and a special place in her heart for 42nd Street (the movie, the musical and the place).

Bec Swain

Choreographer.

It’s safe to say Bec has caught that musical theatre ‘bug.’ Since performing in her first show over twenty years ago she has been involved in countless productions both onstage and behind the scenes. Some performance highlights have been Millie (Thoroughly Modern Millie), Meg Giry (The Phantom of the Opera), Liesl (The Sound of Music) and Louise (Carousel).

Following graduation from a Masters of Counselling degree, Bec spent several years performing at Tokyo Disney Resort and in 2019 spent three months in New York studying an intensive program at Broadway Dance Centre; learning from industry professionals and seeing every single Broadway show!

Currently a teacher at Bayside Dance in Wynnum, Bec has taught at a number of dance schools across Australia and is really enjoying extending into choreography for theatre. Bec is thrilled to be working with Phoenix Ensemble for the very first time having previously choreographed for Mamma Mia (Queensland Musical Theatre), Gypsy (Beenleigh Theatre Group), Annie (Savoyards) and The Mikado (Savoyards).

Jacob Cavanough

Musical Director.

Jacob Cavanough is a conductor, percussionist and teacher with over 20 years of experience. He holds a Bachelor of Music from QUT and teaches percussion at two Brisbane schools. Jake and has performed in more than 30 musical theatre productions with companies including Savoyards, BMT, QMT, Ignatians and Starlight on percussion, keyboard, trumpet and bass. He is the founding conductor and musical director of South of the River Community Band and is a founding member of contemporary percussion ensemble Percussimo. Jake directs the Drum For Life program with Here’s to Life Redlands and gets a kick out of freelancing regularly with orchestras and ensembles around South-East Queensland. He is partial to anything by Sondheim or Gilbert & Sullivan and has been known to tolerate Lloyd Webber for a fee. He has a passion for musical theatre with its power to tell stories and bring people together, and the unique buzz that each performance can give. Jake is thrilled to be on deck with Phoenix for his maiden voyage as MD for Anything Goes.
