Synopsis

Step into the enchanted world of Broadway’s modern classic, Disney’s Beauty and the Beast, an international sensation that played a remarkable 13-year run on Broadway and has been produced in 37 countries worldwide. Based on the Academy Award-winning animated feature, the stage version includes all of the wonderful songs written by Alan Menken and the late Howard Ashman, along with new songs by Mr. Menken and Tim Rice. The original Broadway production ran for over thirteen years and was nominated for nine Tony Awards, including Best Musical.

The classic story tells of Belle, a young woman in a provincial town, and the Beast, who is really a young prince trapped under the spell of an enchantress. If the Beast can learn to love and be loved, the curse will end and he will be transformed into his former self. But time is running out. If the Beast does not learn his lesson soon, he and his household will be doomed for all eternity.

This “tale as old as time” is filled with spectacular costume and sets, Disney’s Beauty and the Beast is perfect for the whole family – young or old!

creative team

Justin Tubb-Hearne

Director.

Queenslander Justin Hearne studied Technical Production at QUT specializing in costuming and set design. A milliner by trade, Justin has used his creativity in Queensland and further afield, costuming and dressing both in Sydney at the Opera House as well as in New York. Previous productions include Gypsy, Dogfight (North American Amateur Première), Twisted (World Première), Sweeney Todd and Man of La Mancha to name but a few. Last year he began his directorial journey with the hilarious Xanadu and has been so excited to get the chance to direct Beauty and the Beast – a monster of a show! Justin currently serves as Phoenix Ensemble’s Artistic Director and can’t wait to see the Tin Shed continue to go from strength to strength!

Benjamin Tubb-Hearne

Musical Director.

Benjamin Tubb-Hearne is originally from London, UK and studied Tenor Horn and Composition at the Royal Northern College of Music. Aged 22, Benjamin moved to New York City, where his Musical Direction journey began at the French Woods Summer Camp. Here he musically directed and conducted over 20 shows, including Annie, A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum, Curtains and Sweet Charity. It was also here that Benjamin found with his writing partner Ryan Jacobs, where they created 1 hour musical versions of popular movies for children
including Toy Story, Enchanted and a Bugs Life, as well as creating their own superhero musical Powers. In 2014, Benjamin & Ryan’s original full-length musical ‘Twisted’, a story which follows Little Blue Riding Hood’s search to find her real family premièred at the Playhouse Theatre at French Woods to much acclaim, and it is currently preparing for a second workshop. Although Ben is relatively new to Brisbane he has burst onto the scene Musical Directing ‘The King and I’ & ‘Chicago’ (Savoyards), ‘Dirty Rotten Scoundrels’, ‘La Cage Aux Folles’, ‘Big Fish’ & ‘Young Frankenstein’ (Phoenix Ensemble). He has loved every minute of working with stellar cast and cannot wait for you to enjoy it as much as he has!

Amy-Rose Swindells

Choreographer.

Amy-Rose is an energetic and passionate Dance Teacher with years of experience. She is fully qualified holding her CSTD (Commonwealth Society of Teachers of Dancing) Teaching Diploma, Certificate IV in Dance Teaching and Management and Module 1 Acrobatic Arts Certification. Her professional career has seen her tour QLD with Raw Dance Company’s ‘ Urban Wonderland’ and Full Metal Racket’ shows and perform with Troupes ‘CandyApple Cabaret’, ‘The Met’ and ‘Raw Suga’. Gaining her training here in Brisbane at local quality dance school Julie-Ann Lucas, Amy-Rose can cater for all students, those just having fun and those wanting to create a career out of dance. Choreography comes naturally to her as she created her first large group dance at the
age of 12 and has continued this now through her life. She has performed in and choreographed many musicals including Sweet Charity (Lead Role and Choreographer), Chorus Line (Lead Role), Thoroughly Modern Millie Jnr (Choreographer) and Alice in Wonderland Jnr (Choreographer). Amy-Rose had her name in lights in 2018 as Choreographer at ‘Phoenix Ensemble’ with very successful show ‘Xanadu’. Quote from Review by Shane Webb, ‘Swindells’ choreography was well thought out, full of punchy energy, and matched to fit restrictions
of the space. It was obviously well drilled, and despite some opening night nerves, the cast attacked it wonderfully.’ She will have her name in lights again in 2019 with ‘Phoenix Ensembles’ production of ‘Beauty and The Beast’.
